Speedy Senior ® Safety

Speedy Senior ® General Safety

  • Read ALL directions that are shipped with your scooter.  General Safety precautions are paraphrased below.

  • Steering widely with the front wheels around tight corners will allow the scooter's rear wheels to avoid cutting short.

  • "Slow Down. Speed Up"- Brake when going Down a Ramp - Keep speed going up an Incline.

  • If restarting up an incline, start slow and gradually accelerate

  • Release the throttle control lever to completely stop the scooter.

  • Avoid potentially Hazardous inclines (wet & slippery, snow, ice, or wet leaves).

Freewheel mode

  • The Freewheel lever allows your scooter to be pushed for short distances, while no one is sitting on or standing next to it.

  • Freewheel mode should not be used when sitting on or standing next the scooter.

  • Freewheel mode should be used only when necessary and avoided on inclines and while driving.

  • The scooter is equipped with a High-Speed Limit protection system which helps prevent excessive speed in two ways:

Key Removed:  The controller activates Regenerative Braking when the scooter is pushed faster than a maximum threshold which has been pre-programmed. The controller acts as a speed governor in this case.

Key Inserted:  Considerable Resistance at any speed your scooter cannot even be started. This prevents the scooter from gaining unwanted momentum resulting from inadvertently released manual freewheel lever while driving the scooter.

Driving Conditions

  • Dry, level surfaces constructed with Cement or Asphalt provide excellent stability.

  • Additionally, these scooters are designed to perform admirably on packed soil, grass or gravel you might find in parks.

Reduce your speed on Uneven terrain or a soft surface.

Avoid Tall Grass that may be tangled in the running gear.

  Avoid Loose gravel and sand.

  • Use Caution when Crossing Inclines.  Zigzagging up an incline may situate you in an unsafe angle.

  • Leaning forward while driving up an incline will shift your Center of Gravity and provide better stability.

Normal Driving Position          Incline or Slope Position

Obstacles

  • When climbing over curbs, always approach straight at a 90° degree angle as shown.

  • These scooters are not meant to ascend or descend porches, stairs, or any object bigger than 2 inches in height.

Operation

  • Always turn off the power, remove the key, and make sure freewheel mode is not on before and after using the scooter.

  • Make sure that the seat is locked into place.

  • The seat armrests are not weight-bearing handles. They should be retracted while getting on and off the scooter.

  • Position yourself as far back as possible in the scooter seat to prevent the scooter from tipping and causing injury.

  • When reaching, bending or leaning while seated on any scooter, keep a stable center of gravity to prevent tipping.

  • During idle stationary positions for an extended period of time, turn off the power to prevent accidental throttle contact.

Controls

  • Key Switch: Turns your Speedy Senior ® on and off.

  • Two Throttle Control Levers:  Forward and Backward.  Releasing either lever provides automatic braking.

  • Status LED Light: Warns you of any electrical problems on the scooter. The LED will remain lit while your scooter is on.

  • Speed Adjustment Dial:  Shows the standard Slow Turtle or Fast Rabbit.

  • Battery Strength Level:  Green for charged, Red for Re-Charge

  • Horn Button:  Activates an audible horn to prevent accidents or injuries.

Steering & Seat Adjustments

  • Steering Tiller Angle Adjustment.

  • Seat Lock Lever allows rotation of the seat to one of the 8 positions.

  •  Pull up the seat lock lever to unlock the seat.

  • Rotate the seat to the desired position.

  • Release the seat lock lever to lock the seat in position.

  • 3-Position Seat Adjustment is secured by four bolts.

  • 3-Position Armrest Width Adjustment by a single knob each side.

  • 4-Position Seat Height by moving the included detent pin.

Batteries & Charging

  • Remove the key and place the scooter's Freewheel lever into Driving Position.

  • Plug in the off-board charger power cord into the charging receptacle, and then into a wall socket.

  • A full charge requires 8-14 hours.  Unplug the charger from the wall first, then from the scooter, and replace the cover.

  • The battery pack is able to be Removed if you wish to remotely charge the batteries.

  • Open the cover and remove the battery pack.

  • Place the batteries near an outlet, connect charger to battery harness, then to wall.

  • The green light flashes when fully charged.

  • The charger will maintain a full charge, and helps prevent  over-charging the batteries.

  • The scooter is equipped with two sealed and maintenance free batteries.

  • Both sealed lead-acid and gel cell can be used as they are similar in performance.

  • Power Ratings are 12 Volts DC with 20 Amp-Hour (AH) capacity.

  • Do not use wet-cell batteries, which have removable caps.

  • A fully-efficient charge will take 4 to 5 charge/discharge cycles with new batteries.

Folding and Transporting

  • Disassembly:

  • Steering tiller lock is turned 90° degrees to lock.

  • Remove the seat and open the battery case cover.
